Why black squirrels?
Their story is uniquely Blissfield. In the early 1950s, a local resident named C.H. Fairbank Sr. released 19 black squirrels into the area, having brought them from Battle Creek, Michigan. Over time, they made themselves right at home and are now a charming fixture in the community.
The Black Squirrel Flea Market is more than just a shopping event—it’s a celebration of community, creativity, and quirky local lore. Whether you’re a treasure hunter, a family looking for a fun outing, or simply someone who appreciates a lively day in a beautiful setting, this event has something for you.
Come for the finds, stay for the fun—and don’t forget to say hello to our furry black-tailed neighbors!
